Employee relationship management (ERM) refers to the development of the relationship between the organizational management and the employees. There are several issues in ERM which can affect employee satisfaction as well as influences the productivity and overall corporate culture. It also refers to the relation between the different employees of an organization. The relationship can be between employee and the management as well as between employees at the same organizational hierarchy. It is nothing but a technique which binds the employees and the management together on a common ground and leads them towards the organizational goal.
Employee relationship is the way employees deal with the employer. In other words, the relationship between employers and workers in their workplace. Employees who work with the employer can work individually or collectively. It can be two or more. As it grows, it can become a team. Then a group of people dealing with the employer says something similar to the union.
Employee relations are one integrated concept in human resource management. Its purpose is to maintain and develop employee motivation as well as employee morale. Employee motivation is a way of improving the ability of employees to work. Employee confidence should be enhanced and this can be done by protecting personal happiness and social satisfaction.
From the employee’s perspective, an employee is an asset rather than a cost. An effective employee relation involves producing and nurturing a self-motivated and productive workforce. Employees should be motivated from within, since the management help to nurture the type of environment where employees flourish, enabling the organization to achieve competitive advantage.
Human resource managers are expected to understand the different types of employee relationship approaches. The reason is that human resource managers provide theoretical foundations for many roles in human resource management.
In the current market concept, we can find different approaches to employee-employer relationships.
Unified approach
The unitary approach means that employees and employers work towards the same goals. In this approach, we can see how team activities work, a common goal, an individual strategy, and the interpersonal efforts of individuals. What makes this concept positive is that conflicts are non-permanent mutations that are the result of improper management of the organization. This approach creates a winning position for the organization.
Every employee strives to achieve common goals while maintaining peace and cooperation in the workplace. It will benefit everyone involved in the organization. It also treats corporate conflicts that feel strikes are futile and destructive.
The main purpose of this approach is as follows:
- Creating a creative, effective, and pleasant sound in the workplace.
- Develop a responsible, open, fair, and transparent work culture within the organization
- Create a pleasant work environment
- Limiting issues between management and employees
